I remember sitting at the Crow’s Nest barbershop when I got a message from a photographer friend, Danique Rowsell, who said, “hey check out this place thats opening up. I think you’d like it.” It was Mark’s new barber shop, Sailor Bup’s that he was opening on Argyle Street in Halifax. The irony was that I was sitting in a barbershop, looking at the work of Matt Barnes that he had done for the Crow’s Nest. I want to start shooting more commercial work and this was a great opportunity to do something that was a perfect fit for us.
I panicked. I pounced on my phone and wrote the most spur of the moment email I’d ever written.
“We would love to volunteer our services to do some photos for you. We are not looking for anything in return. I just have a few ideas I’d love to get off my chest. I have a few concepts in mind but would love to talk to you about them first. If you’re at all interested, drop me a line here or at liam@appleheadstudio.com

Thanks! (Sorry, I dont even know who you are)”
That was back in October 2013. 6 months later, we finally got our shit together to make this:
I’m really happy with how it turned out but more than anything, I’m happy that we’ve made some great friends. I’m a big fan of what Mark is building in his business and his brand. He’s gathered an amazing crew and I love walking through those doors.
Thanks for trusting us, Mark. I wish you nothing much well groomed success, my friend.
