We met up at 5.30pm in the parking lot of a Christian Academy and drank beer. I can’t think of a better way to start a trash the dress shoot.
I knew the sun set at 9pm and everything was planned to have Elaine + Ambrose standing on water by about 8pm and then swimming to a rock by 8.30pm. Up until then we had some time to bust out the big lights, head into the woods and make some photos.
A funny thing happened on the way into the woods. Steph swung around w a 5foot octobox on an 8foot pole, dropped the battery pack and we just quietly nodded. We don’t often speak the ‘P’ word at Applehead Studio but Elaine sent us her inspiration board and wowed us. So, in the {p}interest of meshing our style with Elaine + Ambrose’s vision, we left the lights behind, grabbed two camera bodies, two lenses and let the light fall where it may.
So as the sun set slipping below the horizon, we kind of called it. Chicken Nuggets.
We’d gotten a shot and didn’t NEED to have Ambrose + Elaine get wet or step in any deep mud.
A funny thing happened on the way out of the woods. Ambrose swung around with a big grin and we all just quietly nodded.
This is what it’s all about. No, not the thrill of losing your shoes in knees deep leeches mud…but the willingness to let it all hang out and have some fun. These kinds of shoots don’t happen without a, ‘why yes we WILL get out on that rock’ attitude. I loved every single minute of this shoot in all its simplicity. Elaine + Ambrose, thanks for drinking all of the beer being awesome! We can’t wait to shoot the rest!
These images are absolutely stunning! The use of light is breathtaking.
