Easy Coast Pop Up Hot Air Balloon Adventures – A Wedding Story

To say the entire 2020 wedding season is ‘Up in the Air’ would be an understatement. It’s gone like the test balloon they send up to see which way the wind is blowing. What you are about to see is our 2020 wedding season in one blog post. One short elopement in a hot air balloon that, for the first time in out careers, 3 of the 4 of us weren’t event here for the ceremony.

I’m half joking when I say that, as we do have a couple of socially appropriate weddings later this summer, but we approached this shoot like it was our first and last. It was supposed to be Friday night but the weather didn’t work so Saturday night was to be the first flight of the 2020 season for the East Coast Balloon Adventures crew and the first ever wedding ceremony in the basket. With the most experience falling from the sky, Steph took basket cam while Richard, Ashley + I shot from the ground.

Ronni + Garrett didnt tell anyone their plans. They just showed up, filled their pockets with Nova7 and Keith Light and flung themselves up to 6000 feet and talked about how much fun old cars are but how sometimes they can be hard to handle. They got married and the world below them looked up. The internet filled the feeds with this massive balloon floating over their houses in the sunset. It was the topic of conversation in the Valley and when Garrett got to work and told how he’d eloped, the answer was, “were you in that balloon thats all over the internet?”

The crowd began to gather as we followed them to a landing in someones back field. A couple of guys on motorbikes, some kids on bikes and a line of cars pulled over to watch this thing touch down and just sit there in the most incredible sunset. You can’t script this stuff any better than this.

I wont ruin the stories that Seth tells of the history of ballooning and the traditions they have, you truly need to experience this for yourself but I found myself standing back, muttering to myself, ‘wow this is such an incredible experience’.

Huge props to our best bud and Queen of elopements and all things Pop Up Wedding, Sarah Anderson. This was all her doing! With all the changes to weddings this season, there are a lot of elopements and people are looking for unique locations for the backdrop. If this is you, you need to get in touch with Sarah.
