Annie + Trevor on New Year’s Eve

It seems like all these really cool projects start months and months before they actually get launched. I get a phone call about a feature I can’t talk about, I get an offer on something that may or may not happen but it has to be a secret, I get a phone call from 2 very, very talented dudes who say, “Hey, why don’t the three of us _____________ next year and set the wedding world on fire”.

I can’t keep secrets! (but I do place random white text lines in blogs about wedding photography in Halifax as well as boudoir.)

I’ve been working on something very rad since last October and its’ finally going to happen this week. Something different. It’s probably as much fun for me as it will be for my clients and I’m looking forward to learning & creating on a whole new level and collaborating with a very talented friend of mine.

In the meantime, here’s a few images fron Annie + Trevor’s wedding on New Year’s eve. I’m so bad at trying to decide which images end up online. I see all these ‘Best of Weddings 2009′ slideshows from other wedding photographers and I get anxiety just thinking about trying to pick out 3-5 of my favorite images from each wedding. Marcia and I always play ‘what would your last meal be’…you know, if you were a convict. I always lose because I can’t come up with the main course. So I’d love to tell you I’ll do a Best of Weddings slideshow but it would take me years and high doses of benzos.

Hannem - I wanna know when Jenny is being signed as a model. She looks amazing in every shot!!

The (ridiculously excited) Bride - These are fantastic. You need to stop making me pee my pants at work, it’s not going over so well.

Natasha Benigno - Oops I copied the person above when I wrote Jenny instead of JENNIE!! Please don’t kill me!

Natasha Benigno - We are really into this song Jenny!

DonnyO - I am not Dave or Jenny AND I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE FINAL IMAGES. Awesome shots above Liam/Jenny

Trash the Dress Behind the Scenes

I finally got my hands on the video we shot during the Trash the Dress shoot in Mexico. Here’s the scene we had to work with. One big hole in the ground, ropes, ladders, french scuba divers and randomly placed holes the perfect size for a photographer to fall through if he’s not looking where he’s watching.

The story I’ve been telling about this shoot was obviously false because in the real life recorded version I exhibit no concern, shock or panic as Dave exclaims, “I think I broke my toe”. I clearly was set on getting Jenny and that dress into the rope swing. On this video, I am a heartless man. In my version I carried Dave on my back to the hospital 60 miles away. This part was obviously left on the cutting room floor. I am comforted by the fact that Cheryl simply says, “Hmph, probably coral….Jenny do you want your bikini” and then as blood fills the pool she directs Jenny into the rope swing to get the shoot rollin. Consummate professional she is.

I’m happy to say that our concern for the little toe was so great that no video was recorded until we all had our wits about us and no one was going to pass out or throw up.It wasn’t until we moved Dave’s little toe to the side and stood eye to toe with his little toe ligaments that we turned that cenote into mini ER. Take note of the stellar first aid skills on Donal O’Neil and the navy blue resort towel pillow and bandage set. If MacGyver was there he would have stepped aside.

i love it when shoots turn into stories. thanks D+J.

(big thanks to Cheryl and D for being my last minute assistants/DOP/Medics and video tapers. I won’t even complain about the sideways video….)

Hannem - I think the funniest part is, the local talking to Liam as though he is fluent in Spanish

Cheryl - don’t bring me down with you, ya heartless basterd! :) We’re all remarkably calm in hindsight…felt more stressful being there….ah the magic of time. xo

Slayer at the Halifax Wedding Show? Let them eat Layers Wedding Cakes.

The Brides 2010 show took place last Sunday at the WTCC in Halifax and it was another huge success. This is an amazing show and the attendance gets larger and larger every year.

One of the busiest booths of the entire show was Jennifer Harrison’s cake booth. Layers Wedding Cakes from Halifax had about 10 people deep the entire day. Jen made 600+ cupcakes and they were gone by early afternoon. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one…just one. I was so hungry after looking at those cakes all day long that I tried to eat the sample cakes at the end of the day. The fondant was amazing. The styrofoam middle wasn’t half bad either. THATS how good Jennifer’s cakes are.

A long standing Christmas tradition that dates back many many years finds us gathered with good friends and that gathering sometimes takes place at my friends Nancy & Wayne’s. Nancy has a penchant for decorating and every year she’s got an amazing manger display. As the evening goes on I find myself drawn toward this manger and try as I might, I can’t resist the temptation to put the animals and Mary and Jesus in positions not suitable for a xmas display. Nancy doesn’t usually find this until the next day which makes it all worthwhile.

This temptation to rearrange reared its ugly head at the Brides 2010 show again. While I was able to fight the urge for the show I could not help but do a little photoshopping to Jen’s booth. What groom doesn’t want to get a wedding cake from a place named SLAYER!? (sorry Jen)

Here’s Jen’s booth and a few rad dresses from the fashion show. Im working on a full slideshow but here’s 2 for now.

Mike Hall - I’m lucky enough to usually get a box of cupcakes from Jen at christmas time. She did give me a box of 24 this year. My record is 6 in a day, and 3 in one sitting… Man, they are good!

Tara - Nice shots Liam! I didn’t make it to this show this year but hope to next year. Love the photoshopped image.

an engagement session left of the murder.

i’ve had this idea kicking around in my brain for a while now. i had originally wanted to do this shoot w Shawn + Nicole for no other reason than a few laughs. It just never happened. when I talked to Kim about her engagement shoot she wasn’t big on shooting outside in the cold and instead said her and Keegan would do anything i had in mind. guinea pigs I think she said.

i told her the concept. Halifax wedding photographers shooting the veil in the basement.

they hit the second hand shops for some clothes. boudoir photography was shot in the basement in Halifax w hot lights

my very resourceful Co-oP student, Alexa, hooked us up with some pro equipment

this one makes me laugh. they killed it, and I think i gave my imagination a run for it’s money.
